About The Academy
The APOSTC Law Enforcement Academy-Tuscaloosa (LEAT) was chartered in October 2000, and is located at the Tuscaloosa Municipal Airport in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Law Enforcement Academy Tuscaloosa maintains a close working relationship with several local agencies: the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the University of Alabama Police Department, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, and Northport Police Department, utilizing both personnel and facilities of these agencies. The Law Enforcement Academy Tuscaloosa is an APOSTC certified regional academy, striving to prepare its students to return to their respective agencies as ready for the field as possible.
LEAT is a non-residential academy, but housing is made affordable for agencies through local agreements. LEAT features modernized classroom facilities, workout facilities and administrative offices. Our outdoor facilities include an agility course, a drill field, and miles of paved asphalt for running. Firearms training is typically held at the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s firing range, which is one of the most picturesque facilities in the state of Alabama. Driver training is held in Montgomery at the Alabama Law Enforcement Emergency Vehicle Operations Center.
LEAT utilizes the specialized services of guest instructors who graciously donate their time and expertise, in our efforts to provide the most knowledgeable practitioners in their various fields of expertise.
It is the mission of the APOSTC Law Enforcement Academy at Tuscaloosa to train Law Enforcement Personnel in accordance with the rules, regulations and curriculum of the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission; to teach in a disciplined and dynamic training environment; and to deliver the curriculum through innovative, experienced and well respected instructors.
