“WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW”
This tuition-free, 8-hour Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training course is for street patrol officers, new detectives, and community groups who need to understand the scope of the criminal street gang problem, history, current trends, methods of operation, and safety concerns on the street.
Course topics include:
• Definition of criminal street gangs
• Transnational gangs and their influence
• How to identify criminal street gang members
• Current methods of operation
• Street gangs history, alliances, and rivalries
• Gang graffiti and tattoos
• Current recruiting methods
• Awareness and personal safety strategies

Instructor Roberto Hernandez is a Special Agent Supervisor (SAS) with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) assigned to the Orlando Regional Operations Center. As a Special Agent, SAS Hernandez was assigned to the Organized Crime Squad where he investigated criminal gangs and other organized crime groups. Other FDLE assignments have included; mid-level narcotics, intelligence, and protective operations. Prior to joining FDLE, SAS Hernandez was a member of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for nine years, five of which he served in the Gang Enforcement Unit. During his tenure, the Gang Enforcement Unit was selected gang unit of the year by the Florida Gang Investigators Association three out of the five years. SAS Hernandez is also an internationally recognized gang identification and investigation instructor for the Office of the Attorney General of Florida and for St. Petersburg College’s Center for Public Safety Innovation (CPSI) and has been an active member of the CPSI instructor team bringing Community Policing training to the Caribbean, Central and South America. Prior to his law enforcement career, SAS Hernandez served in the United States Navy as a communications specialist and the Naval Reserves as a law enforcement officer. SAS Hernandez is a graduate of Columbia College with a BA in Criminal Justice Administration.
