The Alabama Impaired Driving Enforcement Program will be conducting
Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Refresher Training
TRAINING DATES: July 5th, 2021
TRAINING TIMES: 0800 – 1200p
TRAINING SITE: Law Enforcement Academy Tuscaloosa
This course will refresh your skills in evaluating impaired driving suspects, from the initial observation of
the vehicle to the arrest and processing of the suspect.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that officers responsible for
conducting DUI investigations attend refresher training to maintain both their skills in detecting impaired
drivers and proficiency in administration of the SFSTs. This course provides the latest revisions to the
program, along with relevant legal changes for DUI prosecution.
Topics Include:
 Recognizing and interpreting evidence of DUI
 Legal aspects of DUI enforcement
 Administering and interpreting the SFSTs (to
include HGN)
 Proper documentation techniques
 Describing DUI evidence clearly and
 SFST proficiency
Course Length:
4 hours
To attend this course, you must have successfully completed the NHTSA/IACP DWI Detection and Standardized
Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) course.

All training cost for this course is funded through a grant from ADECA and is free training to all full time APOST
Certified Officers. This course is taught by Officers, Deputies and Troopers from the
Alabama Impaired Driving Enforcement Program.
