Captain Vaughn was appointed the Director of LEAT in 2018 after retiring as a 30 year veteran from the Tuscaloosa Police Department.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has a B.S. from the University of Alabama.

Captain Gibbs was named the Senior Training Coordinator of the LEAT in May 2021 after retiring from the Tuscaloosa Police Department with 29 years of service.  He had previously served at the LEAT from 2002-2006. He is a graduate FBI National Academy #264 and has an A.S. in Criminal Justice.

Anglin has been in law enforcement since 2005, serving with University of Alabama PD from 2010 until 2024, reaching the rank of Lieutenant prior to accepting the position with LEAT as Advance Coordinator.  He has a B.S. degree in sociology from the University of West Alabama.

Mrs. Smelley has served as the Executive Assistant for the Law Enforcement Academy since its inception in 2000. Previously she served with Phifer Wire Products for 18 years.
